Finishes!

No really, I have some finishes!!!

The Cowboy Quilt is bound.

When I know who it is for (ie when a boy baby is born) it will get a label but I'm definitely calling that a finish for January.

This baby girl quilt top is complete. Just need to get quilting as this one will be needed in March.

I quite like doing wonky stars, not need to worry about precise points.

And Swooney.

I know I said it was going to be for Mr CP but I'm thinking it's a bit girly.

Most of the blue fabrics are quite floral.

So I started this....

An all blue, manly-man, solids quilt.

I'm loving it and I think he will too.

I'm also really enjoying the extra challenge that triangles, HST's and flying geese pose.

I think there's been a few too many square and rectangle quilts in my past.

So now I have TWO finishes to link into the 12 in 2012 finish-along.

Swoon sucker

My powers are about as resistant as Superman's to Kryptonite.

Since the Swoon quilt is on my list of finishes for 2012, I don't think I'm breaking any rules.

I've auditioned many fabrics and I think these 18 have got the part.

Several Denyse Shmidt from Spotlight have snuck their way in.

The last thing I need is to work out what background colour.

Blue? Green? Grey?

Big decisions.

Oh and did I mention that I have my first proper finish for 2012?

I started this quilt last year when I was given the fabric and thought my unborn needed a quilt. I liked the colour of the fabric but not that chuffed by the print or feel of the fabric (rough).

I've quilted it simply in the ditch and finally got the binding finished last night.

Hallaluja, there's been progress

I got started on one of the baby quilts yesterday. I'm doing some wonky stars in some very girly fabrics. I'll get back to that this afternoon...thank the gods for nap time!

The other night, on a whim, I decided to try my hand at some free-motion quilting. I did a class here a couple of years ago and liked stippling but I couldn't get the tension right on the machine - looked good on the front of my practice piece but it was a knotted shambles on the back. The same thing was happening again so I

decided to do a funny thing and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS....

Absolutely amazing what you can learn.

Anywho, a quick stippled whiz about on my practice quilt sandwich and I grabbed the Cowboy quilt top, some batting and backing and spray basted it. I then hand to do motherly duties, all the while excited about getting stuck into the machine quilting.

Finally, it was bedtime for the monster and I could have a go and....

Voila!

It took about an hour.

It's far from perfect but I love it.

As soon as I was finished I was feverishly looking around for another quilt to throw on the machine.

I came to my sense and had a calming chocolate milkshake instead.

In the meantime I have machine appliqued the 'On the Move' blocks and basted the 'Faves' Amy Butler quilt. I'm trying to find the right thread colour to match the striking pink backing but have been thwarted by closed quilt shops so far. I have been making great progress with the WIP's and still feel really enthusiastic about getting things finished.

And this guy. Shucks, I just love him.

Even though he's turned into a vampire....

It's time I exposed myself

Don't be rude, I'm showing my WIP's not my arse!

I am challenging myself to get all of the following projects finished.

Last year was supposed to be the year of finish but then I had the best kind of start (Master Harvey) instead so I was completely and utterly distracted.

So I invite you to look at the inner workings of this very distracted sewist....

My favourite Amy Butler fabrics quilt. It's possibly to be long arm quilted, possibly to be machine quilted by me...Anyway, the backing AND binding fabrics are sitting with it so it's semi organised.

Another Amy Butler quilt (there's three, I was obsessed ;o)

Also has backing ready to go. I will get this long armed.

'On the Move' cot quilt. I finally stuck the appliques on the other day, I need to raw-edge applique them and of course piece this one. It too has the binding and backing fabrics sitting with it. There are at least six babies that I need to create for this year (not including making a quilt for my own...the one that is yanking on the laptop right now. I guess I'm finishing this post later)

Several hours and a bedtime later....

Un-named red and white quilt for my friend Lisa. Already gifted and then taken straight back so that I could quilt it. Anyone noticing a theme?

The final Amy Butler, also un-named (I always name my quilts, usually with a pun) and unquilted. I'm planning to hand quilt this with Perle thread. I'd love to have this finished and being used this year.

This green and white number is the toile quilt. Um it's been a finished top for a very long time. Dare I say at least five years. Oops. To be long arm quilted when I find a backing. I'm considering scalloping the border so I think that's held back the finishing.

'Cowboys' is another top that 's been languishing in the 'Tops to be Quilted' container. I really wished I'd bought bolts of the red with white spot - it's the scrummiest colour. This will be for one of those many babies. I'm banking on a few boys at least.

This is 'Chocolate Lollipop' in the Walk the Line pattern by Sarah Fielke (I think. It was in Australian Better Homes and Gardens some time ago). Must piece it.

'Birdie Stitches' was a stitch-along on the LMS blog. I ran out of steam but plan on using the blocks for a girl baby quilt.

The 'Rainbow Connection' is a zig zag quilt. I think it's going to be for our bed...who knows? Much piecing to be done.

A table runner that I practiced hand quilting on. It has needed binding for quite some time and it'll give me an easy finish.

Another one for a baby-to-be. Simple but very cute panel. I'll machine quilt it.

Oooh look another panel. As above.

Some scrummy, girly fun fabrics for girl baby-to-be (the only one I know what the sex is...because her mum accidentally told me - oops!) probably a simple star pattern.

I'm hoping to start (and finish) this stitchery, well the whole quilt actually, with my favourite wenches B and Jules.

Finally Swoony. I've never made a quilt for my one true love and it's really about time that I did. His favourite colour is blue and mine is green so I'm hoping to make it a perfect fit for both of us.

So that's me exposed.

Eleven, yes ELEVEN tops to be pieced and/or quilted.

Five quilts to be started and finished....um, also at least a few other for the remaining babies.

Eeeek that probably means TWENTY QUILTS to complete.

Bugger.

Oh well, I'll be a super sewist (my new word) in 2012.

Christmas Past, Present(s), Future

I got me an elf for Christmas.

Yup, he's gorgeous.

We had a wonderful Christmas with family and it seems Harvey has been good because Santa delivered!

I successfully cooked a turkey for the first time and we had a wonderful, relaxed Christmas at home with my folks. There was lots of joy while gifts were opened and all eyes were on Harvey while he explored his new things.

I hope you all enjoyed the festive season and that the new years brings you love, laughs, fun and LOTS of fabric.

I'm hoping I can complete one project a month during 2012.

It's ambitious but I have the need to reduce the WIP's so that I can get into some long awaited 'must do's'.

Sacked Again!

The Quality Control Officer gave his tick of approval and then checked out the photography equipment at very close range.

Waaaay back in May, Harvey received a wonderful handmade hat from Tanya at Apple and Tangerine.

I was in la la newborn babyland and forgot to post about it. I did send a personal thank you to Tan but I still feel remiss for not blogging it.

Anywho, the hat it slightly too big at the moment but that's just perfect really. He has his Mr Fixit hat from Bec for now and by the new year that'll be too small and his hat from Tan will fit (well planned ladies ;o)

I could just eat him but I checked and it's against the law.

2.30AM shopping...it makes you see sideways.

The other night his majesty awoke at 2.30am so of course, so did I.

Fortunately I know to be prepared and take my phone with me.

Bleary eyed and slumped in my feeding chair, I managed to see a sale at The Haby Goddess and bought myself this gorgeous 'Peony' by Colette dress pattern.

The dangers of being a woman and therefore being able to multitask....

Not sure that I'm anywhere near ready to make the dress but as you can see, the magic word Beginner is on the pattern, mocking me.

I also recently bought this book. After reading several reviews I decided it seemed worth the purchase.

(For some reason blogger has turned some pics sideways grrrr)

I haven't embarked on anything yet but in the meantime it's very pretty to look at.

My lovely aunt Jude made me this cute apple cosy. See how happy and snug that apple looks ;o)

It'll be great when I'm back at work next year, I hate bruises on my fruit.

As for me and craft?

I made this cushion, adapting a pattern by Melly

It was gifted to Harvey's friend Lily, from play group.

It has pride of place in her cot.

I also embarked on sewing a top for me but we've been out of action for the last four days. Harvey Monster came down with a cold on Thursday and as is his generous nature, he gave a fair share of his germs to me.

There has been an alarming amount of snot, much of it wiped on me (unintentionally, I hope) but I think we're on the mend.

I'm so grateful for my IPhone and being able to play on the net during the wee hours. Much more than that, I am grateful for all the blogs and websites. It's wonderful to be able to keep in touch with my hobby while caring for my cherub.

Why didn't I think of this before???

Get the newest family to do it!

Sadly, he tired of it quickly but I feel there is some potential considering how excited he was when he saw Mr Dyson.

After reading the many and varied responses to my last post, I realise that we all have an axe to grind when it comes to our 'others'. I guess if they were asked, there'd be a few things lacking with us too.

I floated the idea of my Mr paying me to do his chores (I thought win, win as they'd get done and I'd have pocket money to spend on important things like fabric) He laughed his arse off and said we should get a real cleaner.

Ouch!

So nothing is actually resolved but I've vented and honestly, I realise that Mr CP is quite domesticated (makes him sound like a pet!) and I am lucky to have him.

And he's lucky to have me!!!

My aunty Pam, a fellow stitchy sister, once said, "Start as you wish to carry on."

I've held onto that advice and in the three years Mr CP and I have been together, I have held the same expectations that we share chores and responsibilities. I think it's mostly working and therefore should continue.

Time for a walk with my little ~~slave in training~~ bubba.

Division of labour

This is a post that has been stewing inside me and needing to be written for a long time.

My brother and I were brought up by our dad, due to our mum being unwell and being in a nursing home from when I was nine. My dad cooked, cleaned and he can even sew (no, really!) so my expectations of what the man of the house does isn't the usual.

When Harvey was born I suddenly felt a pressure to be 'Suzy homemaker' and it made me angry. I must say that Mr CP in no way inferred/said/demanded that I do everything but I was angry all the same.

I feel that because I became a mother, there was some sort of expectation for me to become in charge of looking after the whole household (maybe my own expectations of myself...?). But how is that fair? I don't make all the mess, the Mr uses this house as much as I do. In this year off it would be easy to take on more than my fair share because I am not 'working' but really, I am. The Mr goes to paid work for 40 hours a week and I look after Harvey while he's not here. That's my work. Fair to say it's more than 40 hours a week too.

I decided that we needed to determine the set tasks that we would each complete.
I do the cooking, he does the dishes. I do the washing, he mows the lawn.
We alternate the floor cleaning and bathroom cleaning on a weekly basis.

Except, we don't.
Every week I have to remind the Mr that it's his week to do the floors or bathroom (EDIT: Mr CP DOES do the other jobs, the battle is the floors/bathrooms and general picking up/tidying. I don't want to misrepresent him as a slacker because he is definitely not that. The issues are mostly mine. Mostly ;o). There is a three day window in which to do your set chores (work and life get in the way sometimes) but every week I have to nag, be bossy and threaten to get a cleaner.
It's driving me nuts.

So I want to know, what is your division of labour?

How do you decide who does what? How do the household chores get done?
I'm looking for some wisdom from everyone.
I don't want to be a nag (channeling screeching fishwife...no offence to fishwives ;o)

Help?!?!

Everybody look at your pants!

The clothes making obsession hasn't ended so it must be a real one.

Some luscious lion pants for my roary lion.

Who has a big* lioney tooth to bite you with.

Finally some real Quick Change Trousers from Handmade Beginnings.

Funky red with robots on one side and boisterous blue with planes on the other.

They were easy to make and I think they look pretty snazzy.

He'll get lots of wear out of them as I made the 9 month size (he's 7 months) and he's a little dainty for his age.

I will not be dainty for my age if I keep eating lunch dessert like this.

But it was a birthday treat for me.

31 the other day.

It snuck by without fanfare...it seems the stuff that used to be all about me isn't so much any more. Even more shocking, I don't mind!

It's all about the well dressed monster who is currently trying to pull the laptop cord out as I type.

Every time I see this pattern I Swoon.

Last night I decided I had to buy it because I need to make this quilt.

Camille had a sale for Halloween so I splurged a whole $7.49 (big spender, I know!) and now it's on its way to me.

There's going to be some tough decisions regarding what fabric to make the quilt out of....

Obsessed much?

So lovelies, you know how I have a little bit of an ~~obsession~~ passion for the whole world of patchwork and quilting? It's subtle, I know.

I've always wanted to be able to make clothes but to be honest it scares me.

Those flimsy patterns, darts, yokes (you've got to be yoking!), stretch fabric eeeeeek!

It all seems....hard.

I'm always astounded when successful seamstresses say that they are daunted buy patch working and quilting but I guess I know how they feel but in reverse.

But burning desires can't be quieted for long.

I started making this skirt quite some time ago but I was waylaid by a baby and a fear that the tum would never be the same (it won't be but it isn't too bad - anyone else got a floppy belly button post baby???) but I'm motivated to finish it for the summer.

Obviously there was the PJ pants the other week.

Then I decided that it was time to make something for my muse.

I used AMH's 'Quick Change Trousers' for the shape and came up with these cords.

I think they'll be quite baggy because they are supposed to be double layer.

I added the 'flange' at the 'yoke' just for a bit of fun.

When you don't know the rules, it's easy to go out on a limb :o)

I just need to add some elastic and feed up the model.

Since Saturday when I made the blue cords I've been a little...lets say enthusiastic.

Dare I say when I woke during the night, bubs sound asleep, I was thinking of making clothes.

First chance I got I headed to the oppy with the little guy.

$3.50 later I have some patterns to play with.

No, I won't be making him frocks, as tempting as it is, I'll be trying all sorts of patterns to expand my knowledge and skills. Plus who knows, one day there could be a girl muse.

Luscious Dancing Legs

My little munchkin has done the very best thing he could and has grown!

After nine weeks in the brace for his hip displasia, he has had a reprieve.

He gets the days off to be footloose and fancy free!

The joint seems tight so he tends to hold his legs (looks like a seagull :o), particularly the left one which is the bung one, up as if he is still wearing the brace. With each day it seems to becoming more loose though.

There is lots of backwards, pre-crawling going on.

We're going to have to batten the hatches and make this place kid friendly soon.

Eeeeeek!!!!

Fox Hunting

This one is by Anda on Spoonflower

There's quite a few choices on Spoonflower but at $11 a fat quarter or $18 per yard I don't think the budget will stretch to many of them.

I was just going to make something out of the Fox Trails range but now there seem to be so many fabrics featuring foxes, I think I might start collecting.

The kid can't have too many quilts, can he?

Finishes (finally!!!)

I've gone back and looked at old photos and finally found that I bought this Anna Maria Horner Flannel in February 2010. I started cutting out the quilt in June 2010 and now I have finally finished! Woohoooooo!!!

Simple squares, finished 7.5 inches.

I quilted the top to the batting, in the ditch.

Then I 'bagged' or pillowcased it to add the back.

I tied the back on at all the corners where the blocks meet.

It's a simple but gorgeously soft quilt. I think I've already said it but I would definitely recommend this flannel, it's gorgeous.

Another finish, just completed this morning while my assistant looked on.

My first Amy Butler bag.

I'm not completely happy with it. I read all the instructions about ten times and I went slowly, step-by-step which is a bit unlike me but I still found it hard. I think the pattern is a bit out but I fudged my way through.

I checked the AB website at Bianca's suggestion and there were corrections to an awful lot of Ms Butler's patterns. It surprises me that there can be so many mistakes, especially from someone who I consider to be at a high/professional level.

And because I can't resist showing off my bestest craft ever...

I'm a big reader. I always have been. Dad was great in taking us to the library every month and I would get the 10 book maximum each time and I'd churn through them all. One of my first jobs when I have moved house has been to check out (pardon the pun) the new local library. I love to read as much as I love to craft.

What do you read? Who is your favourite author? Has a book changed your life? Do you ever read a book more than once?

I'll try most genres but I tend to fall back to the chick lit, drama or historical drama style of writing. I love authors such as Jodie Picoult, Maeve Binchy, Marian Keyes, Katie Fford, Bryce Courtney, Isla Evans...the list goes on....

Do you buy books or borrow them?

What book or author do you recommend that I read?

Not bananas in pajamas!

Abbe in pajamas!

I bought this fabric years ago with the intention to make jarmy pants.

I used another pair as a pattern of sorts and came up with these.

It's a lovely cream, pink and brown pin stripped, soft cotton (that wrinkles lots!) and I think they are pretty cool.

I had a good rat through my fabric tubs and found several things I had forgotten about. I'd love to have my stash on show one day. I think it would have me making more from it that way.

I might have to request a set of custom built shelves by Mr CP.

Happy Grand Final day (Aussie Rules Football).

I am not much of a footy supporter but I am a supporter of party food so that's what we're having.

Better Days

With my assistant on the floor I'm ready to sew.

I needed a 'Go-bag' to hold a couple of nappies and wipes for those days where we are unlikely to need the big nappy bag.

I re-purposed a very badly made apron from years ago. Back when I didn't understand sewing speed control or the need to get a machines tension sorted.

The quality control tester has approved so I can claim and very small, very quick finish. Woohoo!!!

No more daggy plastic ziplock bag!

A huge storm rolled in this afternoon. Thunder, lightning and then the power went out.

It hasn't stopped raining for several hours and soon I'm going to need scuba gear to leave the house.

Weather like this calls for soup.

Minestrone just reheating now for my dinner.

Yum!

My tired eyeballs aren't necessarily rested as the Monster is waking for feeds during the night again (must be huge growth spurt as he's feeding more than ever!) but feeling much better.

Tired eyeballs

I was a productive woman yesterday. There was lots of washing hung to take advantage the breezy, sunny day, some weeding in the garden while the Monster watched from the shade of a brolly, exploring grass for the first time and a walk with our lovely Playgroup buddies.

Last night I was fired up thinking of all the things I could do today - I felt some crafting coming on....

And then I woke up.

Just one of those days where I feel sluggish, a headache has tugged at my temple all day and I feel like it's been a wasted day. I did manage a short walk to Playgroup and a chat with the other new mums.

I've nearly finished the AMH flannel quilt, just got to finish tying it. I'm loving how soft it is and can highly recommend the flannel for a quilt or even just backing. The Lou Lou Thi line is being released in flannel...might just have to get some.

The little Monster is awake so maybe I can cure what ails me with some smoochy cuddles.

Cheap Thrills, Multitasking and a Winner

One boy likes sitting in a box while he sings music from the Blues Brothers (his current obsession) so I thought I mose well put the little boy one in too.

We're all about expensive toys in this house :o)

Today I am trying to get things done.

Sometimes that means doing two things at once.

If only he could fold while I carry him and the basket to his room.

Something to work on...

Yesterday while I should have been drawing a giveaway winner, I was making butter!

Ever since I watched a Jamie Oliver 30 Minute Meals ep as few months ago I've been hankering to try and make my own. Guess what??? It tastes like real butter. A carton of pure cream in the KitchenAid mixer and about ten minutes later I had butter and buttermilk.

I added a little salt and ta dahhhhh!

A day Off!!!

I had a day off.

That may not seem like a big deal but, it's the first one I've had in 5 months.!

Mr CP was in charge of Harvey Monster and I had the whole day to do as I pleased (of course interrupted for feeds but then I handed H straight back!) and I spent my day in the sewing room.

It was wonderful!

Does anyone else do the "Ta dahhhh!!!!" reveal of their quilt tops?

I did with this one except it went, "Ta dahhh...ohh crap!"

I'd sewn a row upside down :o(

I'm machine quilting in the ditch but without the backing on as I want to 'bag' it and then tie the back on.

Something different for me but I think it will work well.

Sometimes the best way to get an invitation to somebodies house is to just invite yourself.

Ms Narioka and myself plotted and then garnered ourselves an 'invitation' to visit that Bianca girl who makes stuff. Not such a big trip now that she is a Victorian again.

There was a missing member to the quartet - her nose is in a book as she studies hard but next time...whoa nelly, it'll be a SIT reunion!

Another visit to RCH for Master Harvey and his gammy hip.

He had an ultrasound with the brace on and then with it off and it's doing really, really well.

He's even allowed time off for good behaviour so he had his first bath in four weeks. He was quite swimmy once he realised he could be.

Back to the doctor in 5 weeks so fingers crossed for lots more growing which will make this process lots quicker for Harvs.

Today he modelled a gorgeous 'bomber' style jacket from the range 'Baby Takes a Trip' designed by my childhood bestie, Hayley. Check out her online store. She stocks really pretty, vintage style clothes for kids.

Quiet night in tonight. Couch, chocolate and trashy tv.

A finished Wonder!

THE PURPLE WONDER!!!

I'm hoping the generous and wonderful contributors for this quilt haven't all given up on me. I deserve a smack for taking so long and and even bigger whack since the quilt has been complete since the end of last year, it just needed a label.

That's been printed for several months.

Finally last night, I stitched it on.

The Purple Wonder is complete.

A gorgeous quilt for my dear friend who still finds herself struggling and who will love this quilt through her good times and bad.

To be gifted next week.

Master Harvey has been entirely breastfed for five months (he reached that milestone on Saturday - it's gone sooo fast!) but there's been a hiccup with supply so I'm boosting his feeds with a bit of formula.

This is only his 5th bottle and he's already mastered the bottle and toy hold.

What a smarty pants :o)

Sprung!

Spring has Sprung!

I'm so glad, all the seeds I've been hanging to plant can't be sown until spring. Nothing to stop me now!

After posting yesterday I put the computer down, I went into the sewing room and I sewed.

It felt great.

This is the little project that I began in June last year. Anna Maria Horner flannels. They are soooo soft.

It is a very simple quilt since the fabric is so busy - it should never have taken me so long to do!

I've pieced all nine rows and just have to sew them together.

Playgroup this afternoon so that might be tomorrow.

As for His Highness...

'solids'

His first ever meal - pumpkin was the dish of choice.

He doesn't seem overly impressed by this weirdness in his mouth.

But happy as usual.

He made some hilarious faces and I think he managed to swallow a little bit.

The blankets behind him are to push him forward so that he can fit in his highchair. We're all about adapting in order to not let this brace mess with our life too much.

I'm planning on blogging more and therefore there better be a reward for you reading it.

A little progress

I have done some sewing.

But only a little progress has been made on sorting my UFO's.

But since it's the guest room and there's been guests and since the winter has been more springlike...

I've spent lots of time walking my boy around the neighbourhood and playing in my plots.

Hello snow peas!

Harvey's sleeps are getting shorter so more awake time means more play time.

It amazes me how much time I can spend tickling, making faces, singing (tunelessly), squeaking toys and general mischiefing with my boy. It's ace!

I can feel the sewing mojo returning. Yippee!!!

That's it, computer down and to the sewing room I go....

Braceland

We visited Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne last Friday.

The service we received was excellent and the process was simple.

An ultrasound, a confirmed diagnosis of Hip Displasia and a brace fitted.

Our lovely boy has to wear a 'Dennis Browne Bar' brace for six months, maybe less if things improve quickly. There are cuffs on each thigh and a bar that runs under his bum.

The next four weeks he has to wear it 24/7 which no doubt is uncomfortable for him but in general he's fine.

As you can see he still sleeps well, especially after breaky in bed with his biggest fan ;o)

We're off for a walk with a playgroup friend. Another gorgeous sunshiney, winter day that needs to be enjoyed. Fortunately Harvey fits in the pram and car seat with the brace so other than having to support his legs so they don't get uncomfy, all is pretty normal.

My lovely little prince has hit a hiccup in growth proceedings.

Yesterday he was diagnosed with hip displasia after we noticed one leg seemed distinctly longer than the other. Now obviously we will love him no matter how uneven he is but...he's gonna need some fixin'.

We're awaiting a call from the Royal Children's Hospital for our specialist appointment.

Until then he is still the lovely, happy, perfect baby we've always had.

Yep he's got me wrapped around those itty, bitty, slobbery fingers!!!

Sew it begins

The list has begun.

This top is sitting with its backing fabric and binding, all ready to be basted and quilted.

This red and white is for a friend. It was her birthday in late December so the top was given and taken straight back so I could finish it. Must get it done before her next birthday!

This one is STILL on the design wall (floor) but needs to be pieced asap.

This one is slowly being hand quilted. Very slowly.

There is a lot more to add to the list and it will get done.

I love being able to cross things off so hopefully that will help inspire some finishes.

4 Months

I've managed to keep my Harvey Monster alive for FOUR WHOLE MONTHS!

A few hours old

His first bath at home - 5 days old

Six weeks - check out my double chins!

The hospital hearing test/career as a DJ begins ;o)

My big, four month old boy.

Not bad for someone who is making it up as she goes along :o)

Because he's a 'big' boy he has been practising sitting in his high chair. Not that we're up to solids but at least he's at table height when Mr CP and I dine.

My heart hums with love for this little person.

I have had a smooth ride so far, made even easier with the wonderful support of Mr CP. We've also been blessed with a baby who sleeps and eats quite well although he is starting to fight nap times as he knows there's much more fun to be had with his silly mum and dad.

I'm grateful for every day.

Thanks for all the bloggy aunty support over this time.

Harvey gets so many virtual kisses and hugs he's almost squished.

Some sewing

Well I did sewing of sorts.

The last few days have been sunny and blue skies so I've taken full advantage and played in our new 'no-dig' veg beds and have sewn some seeds. I can't wait to start harvesting but with late frosts there is not a lot I can plant just yet.

Harvey was of course a big help, directing my horticultural pursuits from his pram.

I've started my list of projects to complete.

Even the incomplete list scares me :o)

I do have some fabulous fabric though....

Humph was the word of the day that I decided on this morning. Last week I went in search of some material in my sewing room and a big slap of reality hit me in the face.

I have too many sewing projects.

There I said it.

I don't really believe you can have too much material and for me collecting is part of the ~~obsession~~ hobby. But I have so many 'one day' quilts and good intentions but things just are not getting started let alone finished. Actually I'm not too bad at starting, it's definitely the finishing that is more of the problem. But how many WIP's and/or UFO's are too many?

It's not okay to have a whole tub (which I can't close the lid of due to the contents) of 'Tops to be quilted'.

It's not really okay to have a project on my design wall (floor) for months at a time.

It's squares, I'm sure I could have it sewn up in one afternoon.....

Nope, not okay to start another masterpiece...

So I am committed.

Committed to finishing.

While he sleeps.

The next few days I will see me sorting through and prioritising. I will be making lists.

I will be getting things done.

Hold me to it.

Haaaaarvey Bear

My bear and I will be adventuring tomorrow. Time for H to meet darling Dear Fii, another crafty aunt.

Or just look out for my scrumptious bear in his 'kingfisher blue' pram. Fi and I will be the ones gooing and gaahing (nope, the novelty hasn't warn off for me at all!!!) and Fi likes babies so much that she has five and is training to help bring more into the world.

On the home front all is well in the Copper Patch world. I'm getting bugger-all done but have made some progress with my rainbow project. I laid out some on the floor and Mr CP commented "it's bright." Hmmmm.....

Harvey is growing well and sleeping through at least 10 hours a night. yes, that says TEN! Sometimes he sleeps 13 hours and I feel like I have a teenager already :o)

So we are well rested around here.

Righto, time to pack the bag for tomorrow.

I miss travelling light....

There's no business....

Like snow business!

Look what I found in the snow drifts :o)

We had a wonderful day at Lake Mountain. We played on the toboggans while Harvey watched and there was the inevitable snowball fights. Young Mr CP (my 8yr old stepson) was the best target of course and conveniently if you were holding Harvey you were barley (safe).

A sunny day most of the time and no wind so even though it was zero degress, it wasn't cold.

And today he slept. Must have been worn out making those snowballs!

I can't believe we've had this little man for three months.

He's grown so much.

He eats, he sleeps and he smiles a lot.

And look! He's got feet.

In the mean time I have been doing a little crafting; some hand quilting and some secret sewing that I didn't take a photo of (foolish me since it's been gifted already!) but mostly I've been mothering.

Harvey and I just had a wonderful visit with his grandfolks and the great aunts. It's so nice to see him so loved and just because he's.....him.

I've been using feeding time to catch up on reading lots of your blogs but I'm not great at one handed commenting on the iPhone.

Last week I had a wonderful visit with my lovely bloggy mate Jules and her Miss Muff.

As you can see she's a damn comfy woman. Sadly there was no room on her lap for me.

Harvey was lucky enough to receive his wonderful quilt that Jules made.

We absolutely love it and are so grateful for all her stitchy effort. If we had a pool room, this would be going straight to it!

I've been trying to do a little sewing when Harvey sleeps.

He's a bit of a spewer and in the various mop ups I noticed that our couch cushions were in need of replacement. I had some Ikea fabric bought last year when this minx visited so I made two using the 22" innards from Spotty. I won't show you the closures, one Velcro, one zip. I need work in that area!

Today I did a little hand quilting.

This is another WIP. I did a tidy up of the sewing room and now feel guilty about all of my WIP's and Projects-to-be so I am trying to get some Finishes happening.

I only did one block and my finger is already punctured and sore!

Obviously I don't have a 'real' quilters callous yet.

The Harvey Monster has his first cold so now I can add snot to the list of gross things that I encounter on a regular basis with this baby. Lucky I love him! :o)

I've made healthy, healing soup for tea so hopefully he'll get the goodness of that even if it is indirectly.

Ah crap, now I'm one of 'those' people

Yesterday was a gorgeous, sunny autumn day so Aunty Jo, Harvey and I went for a walk into town where he got to meet 'aunty' Jodie who was teaching a class - sometimes baby smooches have to come first so class was disrupted. I think the ladies understood.

Today H donned his new jumper that was made by 'aunty' Trash.

It turns out that it's comfy enough to snooze in.....

Whilst doing some sort of random dance pose...? Or is he a budding archer? Target catalogue model?

Not much sewing around here for the last few days but I did venture out to a few PWS in the last week. We had a lovely visit with 'aunty' Mez in her shop. Since it's my go to store it seems right that it was Harvey's first. He didn't buy much but he sure got wonderful, squishy cuddles. Imagine if we all got that at our local patchwork shop... ;o)

I visited another store and enquired about their casual stitching afternoons and this is what has perplexed me because I have become one of 'those' people. At 11.07am on April the 3rd this year, I was a daughter, sister, friend and girlfriend but at 11.08am, I became a mother. I went from being someone who at times had very little patience for screechy kids and all the sticky mess that accompanies them. Don't get me wrong, I liked kids, I'd even been one once but now it's different. Now I have one of my own.

The issue that has bent my mind is that my enquiry about this casual group had me asking if I could bring my baby and the answer was a big, fat NO. I get there are reasons for it, others are trying to get away from their own kids and grandkids. I get it. But it doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off and, well, offend me.
I guess a big part of my issue is it means I can't go and play. It would be perfectly fine with me if it was a class but it's not, it's supposed to be just crafters crafting their own thing so how does a wee baby tucked under the table create a problem?

Maybe it was a shock because it's a huge contrast to the wonderful craft wenches that I meet with once a month. Lovely ladies who couldn't wait to meet my little man and literally embraced him.

Then again, maybe I needed to come to terms with the fact that now I am a mother, my world has changed dramatically and Harvey has to come first and many, many things over the next 20 years and beyond are going to be sacrificed by me, for him. I'm typing this one handed as he's not settling this evening so cuddles is the only way to have some quiet.

Righto, that's off my chest. Time for a feed and wonderful baby smells to remind me of why crafting aint really that important.

This natty jumper will come in very handy as the days get colder here.

I have managed a bit of time at the machine.

I made these two blocks for The 1st Wednesday Block Swap. Sewing curves was a challenge but I think they turned out pretty good.

The Harvey Monster joined me in the sewing room yesterday and he slept, lulled by the sound of the machine...well he would have slept anyway but at least I know it doesn't disturb him.

Six weeks yesterday!

Daddy is HILARIOUS!

But just when you start thinking that about yourself....

Harvey has been wonderfully welcomed into the world by family and friends, bloggy mates and their mums! I'm amazed at how much love has been created because of the birth of our little boy. We're so lucky. He's so lucky. It warms my heart...

And so, to sew

Or at least to go into the craft room and shuffle stuff around....

Just as I was warned the days with Harvey are whipping by so fast. We have been busy with lots and lots of visitors (often with baked goods and little blue clothes in hand so of course they are very welcome ;o) as well as the wedding of my best friend. For us it was the more important nuptials on the 29th of April.

The prospect of being a bridesmaid only weeks after getting a Harvey was daunting but a laid back bride (at least about that) meant that it all worked out fairly well. She chose a dress design that was flattering for my deflating, wobbly tummy as well as the other bridesmaid who is 28 weeks pregnant. I'm waiting on some photos as this is the only one I have seen of me so far...

Righto, time to actually step inside the world of craft...I think I might sort through my finished quilt tops and make a list in order to try and create some actual finishes. That is until this fabulous range comes out...

Perfect for my little Mr Fox.

My new days

We are doing quite a lot of this.

I am learning to do it in 3 to 4 four hour blocks.

We have had some help this week.

Brothers.

My men.

And to prove he's my son....check out that middle finger ;o)

We really must get a bath but then water conservation is important so it probably is a good idea to put him in with the dishes. Once he realises he's in the water, he's happy and swimmy.

And then we do some more of this.

I haven't exactly done any crafting but I have sorted through some of my stash for 'boy' fabrics. I'm not sure how many quilts a Harvey needs but there is potential for quite a few.

Thanks for all the love and support bloggy peeps, especially his two 'aunts' Jules and Bianca who have been on the end of the phone when I needed questions answered (to say the least) and advice.

I've had a lovely few days catching up with friends and now I have a free diary. Well other than that small to do list.

Item 1: Have a baby.

Since I don't know when that is going to happen, I am pottering around, baking, sewing and blogging.

Now for some show and tell.

This gorgeous quilt was made by my bloggy mate Terry. She made it with specific instructions that it was to be used and abused by Baby CP, especially for lolling about on the floor and I have no doubt it will be.

The quilt is hanging on the bassinet that Mr CP used as a baby. It was obviously made fairly well as Mr CP is one of TEN and they all used it at one time or another (we probably won't use it in the foot well of the car to transport Baby like they did...). The next generation has given it a good go too. Mr CP's cousin made the stand for it and I think it'll come in handy.

On Saturday I finally got to meet Ms Wendy, one of the most talented ladies in craft.

She made me a gorgeous and fabulously large pincushion. It's so cool.

I bought these two wonderful pictures from her (painted by her equally talented husband). The fox and owl has special meanings for Mr CP and I so I thought they were perfect for the nursery.

I've finally got to do some of the things on my list for Baby CP. I bought these iron on transfers quite a while ago so I've jazzed up some plain white jumpsuits as well as some bibs I'd bought from Ikea.

And while I've been sewing today I've had my special helper.

Not every machine comes with one of these attachments.

Every now and then I get swatted to give her a pat or she starts nuzzling the machine and then my hands as I'm guiding fabric through.

Yep, true love and an addiction to scratches.

As for Baby CP...he or she seems happily ensconced in Tummy Town so I will continue to be the Lady in Waiting.

It started with a kiss...

Swapsies!

I've been playing in the land of swap.

I had to send out my fabric for the 1st Wednesday Block Swap. I decided on a whole lot of brights to make these Wonky Squares. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes back my way.

I made a few cross blocks for Louise as part of the Around The Block swap.

Then I had to choose a block with a star that also had a look of movement. It puzzled me a bit but then I found this block called Star Lane. I tweaked it so it fit the fabulous fabric I had to play with and this is what I came up with. I must say I loved the red, white and blue combination. If I have a boy..................

But then I worked on some gorgeous pink, green and yellow fabrics and I thought, if I have a girl.........

And that is why surprises are good!

This is the lucky last block completed for the Around the Block swap. Phew!!! That's a lot of swapsies in a few days. It's nice to know I won't be holding anyone up while I am bunkered down with Mini CP.

And now it's time for a cuppa and a rest on the couch....

Hello Belly Town!

37 weeks today.

No rumbles.

No Braxton Hicks.

Even time for a bit of sewing. This is for Helen in the Around the Block swap.

The cot is finally set up with the mattress.

Note monkey bought by Mr CP for baby for Christmas.

And this gorgeous set was made by my mum for her best friends baby. The bestie, Marg, used it for both her girls and then saved it for me (for 34 years!). Tears came to my eyes when I opened the package. It's so wonderful to have something my mum made as she passed away when I was 17 and I know she would have been crafting away for her grandchild if she could.

Time for the couch (my new bestie) and some uninterrupted telly time. Something I know will become rare in a few weeks time.

Home days and tea parties

Photos included due to the loveliness of the washing. I know I'll get bored of teeny tiny clothes, maybe even resent them but for now I am enjoying all the firsts that come with baby number one.

My dear friend Jo organised a High Tea baby shower for me. This is the table set just before the guests arrived. Her mum got out the lovely cups and saucers - it made the day that little bit more special. Plus I feel like an actual lady if I drink my tea from fine china :o)

I've got 4.5 weeks to before my due (yes, I know, it could come early but I need something to aim for) and things are going well in Tummy Town. Baby is doing, measuring and wiggling all the right things at this point so I feel pretty relaxed about it all.

Time to head to the beach for Jo's hens weekend which involves me getting a facial and head and neck massage....yep, life's good!

Settled...ish

Fortunately the new house is a little bigger than the one I've sewn. A quick creation for Danielle as part of the 1st Wednesday Block Swap. She's making an ace quilt called Tiny Town which I really, really love. It's my first project in the new house and not bad considering the shamozzel that the sewing room in still in.

Okay, it's not too bad but downsizing in the craft department isn't so easy. It has made me start to think about scrap management so I have been through some 'might use one day, various size and colour scraps' and got them sorted. I was even brutal and threw stuff out. Not much in scheme of things but at least three bags got downsized to one.

And as for the tummy, that is continuing to expand, as expected. Yesterday I spent a lovely afternoon having High Tea with some friends as a sort of Baby Shower. Many sage words of advice for me and way too many sweet things eaten so I guess the tummy will be even bigger by the end of the week ;o)

These photos were at 32 weeks and I'm half way through 33 now. Time seems to be marching on which is exciting as well as daunting.

This is my last week of work so I am really looking forward to finishing up on Friday and starting the 'festival of sew' on Monday...interspersed with a lot of daytime tv and playing with teeny tiny clothes in the nursery.

New digs

The Copper Patch crew have moved!

We're about half an hour closer to Melbourne and have gone from charming but poorly insulated cottage to this modern, five star energy rated house.
There are boxes everywhere although the unpacking is going fairly well. However the 'sewing room/spare room' is sadly the dumping ground. It's going to take a whole lot of sorting out and I am under very strict orders from the Mister that I am NOT to move any boxes due to my 'delicate' * condition.... Easy for him to say, I want to pat my fabric stash and remind it that it is still loved.

I will be mostly off email and off line until the phone and internet is connected - it should only be a week or so at the most but it's Telstra so who knows....

In the meantime, happy crafting peeps. See ya when the moving madness has calmed down and the unpacking is unpacked.

A stitch in time...and on the couch

Gratuitous tummy shots at the end of the post for those that can't resist my naked belly!

I blame Terry - she pretended to be nice but really she is just one of those bloggers that 'innocently' blog their next challenge and somehow....she sucks you in!

I have decided to try my hand at a this lovely (well I assume it is, each month is a mystery) stitchery quilt. I'm not sure who it is going to be for but I figure it's a good project to have that I can keep by the couch and do between packing boxes and moving house.

I just couldn't resist the birdies.

It already has me out of my comfort zone - I just tried my first ever French Knot. I did a few after watching some You Tube tutorials and I think I might have mastered them. I'm doing my blocks in 1930's coloured thread and with 1930's sashing of pieced one inch squares. It should look pretty cool. I had fun at Spotty buying random, lovely colours of DMC and I sense that I could get addicted to buying it... Another bloomin addiction!

I have started trying to organise some of this mess that I inherited from my mum. I wish I'd kept all her fabric and bits and pieces but when I moved out of home but back then I was just a wannabe crafter...

I'm sure she'd be happy that I am finally putting her threads to use. She tried hard with her crafting, in fact she tried almost anything but I guess that was her generation (evidenced by the amount of Tupperware we owned!) Mum died when I was 17 after being sick for a long time. I wish I could show her what I have done with my patchwork. I think it is something she would have loved to have done more of if she's had the chance.

Oh well, I'll just have to do 'enough' for both of us ;o)

2011 Mojo

I wouldn't be the first to say that I can't believe it is 2011 already. Where the heck is time going? The months have zoomed by. Maybe it happened when I started counting my time in weeks, scans and how tight my pants had become.

2011 seems to have brought sewing mojo that I am enjoying. I have one more block to quilt on the Purple Wonder - to be attended to straight after I finish this post. A label and it's done. Phew!

The owner to be has just settled on her new house and it is going to look great draped over the couch in her lounge or on the pretty brass bed she bought to celebrate her new surroundings.
I have also started a red and white quilt. Once again I pondered making a Disappearing Nine Patch but I was so taken with the simplicity of the 6.5" blocks that I've decided to save the DNP for another project to be.

No resolutions for me in the new year. My only plans are to write a list of things I want to make along with a list of projects that I want to complete. Other than that we have to pack and move house, unpack, bring a baby into the world and.....bugger it, that's all that needs to go on the list for 2011.

SACKED!

It turns out Young CP doesn't have a stocking or sack so I thought I'd better amend that.

I bought a panel at good old Spotlight and added a few touches of my own.

Now Young CP has his very own Santa Sack to lay out on Christmas Eve.

Lets hope that it doesn't get filled up with reindeer poop like my dad always used to threaten if we weren't well behaved.

I can't have been too bad. I never did get the poop.

I'm sure Dad would say there is still time....

Loving our tree with full decos, prezzies underneath and most importantly the letter to Santa balanced on the branches.

A successful sewing day and now I'm sitting and watching Glee which is definitely a new favourite show. Singing while quilting and binding the Purple Wonder.

This is the life!

Green dreams

Green is my favourite colour and due a few purchases and now gifts I think bubs is going to be seeing green.

The wonderful and charming Deb bought this gorgeous green bib for the mini-me.

I love the Pukeko's (New Zealand birdies) running along the bottom. They'll make me smile and think of you every time I wipe up baby's spit Deb :o)

Sticking with the birdie and green thing...Green is very much a family thing - good ole aunt Pam loves it too. I've had this chicken planned for a while and for once one of my impulse creations has come to fruition. The chook is cut out from some fabric (not pieced) and I made the legs out of embroidery thread with buttons for feet.

I hope Pammy likes her pin cushion. It's a belated birthday pressie.

Now I've got a week off before Christmas to visit, sew and shop for last minute gifts and relax.

It should be a fun week.

Give blood. Do it. If for no other reason than because a crafty minx needs you too.

Who knows, it could be your family member or even you that needs to use blood from the blood bank in your country.

It's easy. It does not take long and best of all there are free cookies, cake and all-you-can-drink cups of tea.

Do it! I know we are all rushed at this time of year but while you sit there you can use your time wisely.

You could do some stitching.

You could write some Christmas cards.

You could write your letter to Santa.

You could save a life.

They are not like anything I have made before but I quite like them.

It's going to be a fabulously striking quilt when it is all together.

I didn't think too long and hard about placement, I just played and it seems to have worked.

Luscious Largesse

Each time I think I look like a real pregnant person someone shoots me down.

Normally I wear a uniform for work so being out of uniform I stand out a lot.

I just got asked why I was out of uniform. Again.

The naughty little smart arse in me (not the baby, the one that's always been there) always wants to give a cheeky answer - I paid my 50 cents/gave my can of food for the poor people so I could wear free dress (something we used to do at high school). I would have thought with this tummy it would be obvious but then again I do know how much people tend to miss details...

24 weeks

No, it wasn't Wednesday when I took the pics but it was just prior to bedtime so I wasn't going to rush off and put a bra on before bed. So Kate, enjoy! ;o)

Some more stitchery has happened but it's for gifts so no showing yet and half a block for the Around the Block swap I am in before I ran out of steam.

A bit of pre Christmas cheer

Monday night was dinner with the sewing girls at a nice restaurant in Daylesford.

This is the stitchery I made for my KK gift.

And this is what I made!

I filled it with chocolates because a stocking must have something in it.

The stitchery is from Gail Pan and I'm looking forward to making the whole Busy Little Elves quilt one day soon.

I received a lovely prezzie which I'll blog as soon as I've taken some pics.

This green number is for one of the ladies in the 1st Wednesday Block Swap. Crazy patchwork was the request and hopefully it's crazy enough. The heart has some green ribbon that came with the fabrics. I think this will be a very pretty quilt when it's all pieced together.

Today was supposed to be the annual jaunt to some patchwork shops with the aunts but with the wild weather we decided to postpone it. I'm hoping to get some more swap blocks done but I woke up with a really sore back so maybe more couch time instead.

Maybe I can get a little stitching done.... ;o)

When Bianca Jae made this mini quilt for me I don't think she envisaged it being a cat mat.

A.B likes to watch me sew. She often makes several attempts to get on my lap but when I have got up to cut or iron one too many times she takes up a position elsewhere. She is sitting on the table behind my machine here and just after this pic she curled up for a nice little nap.

Lucky bugger.

I have been stitching and sewing each night while Mr CP is away for a few days. It's nice to get lost in the threads without feeling like I'm neglecting anyone or missing imperative cuddles.

So far I have managed a block for a swap that was quite late after I mixed the material up with that of another swap. I've finished a gift for my sewing groups KK. That involved some stitchery which I am still very new to - a really pretty Gail Pan elf design. Tomorrow night I'll try and get a block or two of my Around the Block swap done. It's a sewing mission this week.

A Hankering

I had a hankering for gooey cinnamon scrolls the other day. I guess you could call it a craving. I was definitely determined to make what I wanted. I knew I had seen a recipe on Corrie's blog but couldn't find it so a quick email (and a very quick reply from her - thanks Corrie!) and I was set to get making.

This original recipe comes from the Pioneer Woman blog - this woman has good taste of the knowledgeable taste bud kind. I made a half batch of her scrolls as I am supposed to be emptying the freezer before we move, not filling it. I then halved what I made. The first night I stuck to the original recipe but made a lighter, vanilla icing that oozed and melted into the warm scrolls and a couple of nights later I added sultanas and currants and a little less butter. The first ones were the best!

These really hit the spot and are not hard to make at all - no kneading, just some patience required.

Some crafting is going to happen tonight. I love that anticipation of a bit of a stitch-in.

FAT GUTS!

That's at 20 weeks and I've popped more since then :o)

I'm loving my baby belly.

I say that ignoring the uncomfortable moments which I know will only get worse.

Not much crafting being done although I am doing some quiet hand quilting today while Mr CP sleeps after working last night.

Had a great day at the Australian Quilt Market with Fi yesterday.

It inspired me to get off my butt and get some things finished so I can justify starting more but there's some gardening and house cleaning that must take precedence over any patchy stuff at the moment. The CP's are on the move early next year so the current mansion is on the market.

Back to the quilting....

A lovely lady who lives in sunny England (obviously often wears bikinis) who advised as much time as possible in bikinis and high heels before I am past such things (note: she did add a warning that these things maybe shouldn't be done together...I never was one to follow good advice.)

And to think some girl in a shop said, "Ha. You don't look pregnant." This will wipe the look of skepticism off her pimply teen face! (enjoy your career at Dotti, ya cow!) That's either a winter in a very chocolaty paddock or that's a baby belly!

God my belly was nice to start with even if I do say so myself. Now all you 'god-fairy-mother-aunts' better start praying with me that one day I get that back ;o)

Before you say it Kate no I am NOT wearing a bra.

I took off my new E cup bra as it was bras off o'clock.

To think they are still growing...

Snow, sweltering sun and sewing

Saturday the 16th of Oct I woke up to this.

Yep, SNOW!

Much fun was had with snowballs and snowflakes.

On Sunday the 17th I flew to Darwin.

A whole week with my bloggy mate Bianca and this is the view from her yard!

More than 30 degrees and beautiful blue skies.

It was sooooo wonderfully warm.

Bianca took me on some sight seeing. We visited the war memorial at Adelaide River and then met up with another blogger, Kirsty. We enjoyed a lovely lunch (yum!) with her and then we made her do show-and-tell. Kirsty has an amazing eye for colour and is making some fabulous things.

We also visited Litchfield National Park where we saw some wonderful water falls, termite mounds and a flame tree or two.

I also had the wonderful experience of crying with laughter when I turned around at one water hole to find Ms Bianca flat on her back in the water, camera in hand and look of surprise on her face. It took me more than five minutes just to able to pull myself together enough to ask if she was okay. Last night I thought about it again and started laughing out loud in bed. Ahhh laughing at with your mates...is there anything better?

She might be a bit wet and soggy but she was still laughing as she told me to F off!

And this little chestnut is the stunning mini quilt that B made me for the quilt swap we were in. I love it and I think it'll look great in the baby's room no matter what flavour we have. Just need to get a baby's room....

And guess what? You're mad and I'm not....

AND on Wednesday I am turning 30!!!!

I'm not quite having the large celebration I had originally been planning. I'm going to save that for my 31st when I have Baby CP ensconced with a babysitter so I can let my hair down (yep, already planning escapes) and really party.

I better have a giveaway as it will also co-incide with my 100th POST.

Better get some chores done so I can earn some slobbing time this arvo.

New shoes

I bought some new shoes a few weeks ago.

The Addidas belongs to Mr CP. Yes, he does have rather large feet.

But those other shoes are also rather small....

But that will be fine for this little whipper snapper.

It turns out we made a Baby CP.

Now before you all say 'I told you so' because of this book I bought, we actually DIDN'T know at that stage. Boy oh boy do we know now.

The important bits:

I'm due March 30th (eeek!)

We are not going to find out (I'm just happy it's human)

It's my excuse for less blogging and more sleeping (9.30pm is a late night now!)

I'm excited!

I had a little plan in my head. I was going to mix randomly pieced blocks with some feature blocks but now I've gone back to it after a few weeks....BLAH! I don't like it.

I've taken out the big, feature blocks and decided this can just be something else.

Ick, it's hurting my eyes. All that wasted cutting and sewing. Damn.

This is going to be more what I want if not what I thought I wanted.

A hankering for hot cakes.

Turned into this.

Yum!

Then we did a bit of this. We all need mags for inspiration sometimes.

Then I finished this top. About bloody time, I know. It has been sitting in rows for ages. Loving it.

I promise it's much brighter and fab in real life. My camera has a knack for bleaching colour from everything. I'm on the lookout for a big girl camera. Any tips of do's and don't would be greatly appreciated!

And yes I'm still working on the Purple Wonder. Sporadically.

And this is a tease because I am a tease....

Another relaxed day today. I'm being sucked in by the lameness of the midday movie then I'm going to sewing heaven (upstairs where my sewing space is) and gonna play.

Then I'll top of my day with a sewing session with some local ladies. Nice.

This months 1st Wednesday Block Swap was a pretty free brief - birdies! I've gone for three simple tweeters (nothing to do with IPhoned people updating the world of their every move) using the material supplied. It kinda makes me want a birdie quilt now....

Very sadly I've just found out my June block was never received :o( I put lots of effort in and Australia Post or some letterbox thief has let me down. Bum!

Edit: It turns out the recipient DOES have my block. Phew! All apologies Aus Post and postal burglars!!!

Mr CP is happily ensconced in the CP household and you'll need a crow bar to get us out because the house is FULL of stuff. Who knew two houses worth of stuff would be hard to fit into one little house?
Although I've sacrificed half the sewing space, I only gave up the boring side where I hung the clothes to dry anyway. It's a little squashy but I'm pretty sure I can still have plenty of sewing fun.

Mr CP was kind enough to heed my subtle hint when he told me he was taking Little CP to Luna Park.

Ahhh the heart fluttered with love when he arrived at my house baring floss.
Love him. Love heated, spun, pink sugar that's whipped into cloudy fluffyness.

De-Funked

The weather has been brilliant for these guys.

Just to the right is their 'lake' it could also be known as a rather large pothole in my driveway but since they like to paddle in it....Lake Noble it is.

See that funny grey stuff on the floor?

That's dust. Big, bad, hairy (cat and me), half a pecan, a paperclip and dirt kind of dust.

Amazing what you can find under your couch. I had a good clean up today as a means of de-funking and....

It worked!

I got to sewing straight after I *finished.

This is my first completed flower for Hexed 2010 - a little challenge a few ladies are playing in.

Amazing what a couple of decent sleep-ins, some chocolate and couch time can do.

I'm a new woman.

So a very technical approach was employed in order to select the winner of the giveaway.

All the names were written on paper and then Annabell (who obviously had to play a part since it was all about her) selected the winner with her paw.

She seemed unimpressed and somewhat scared but maybe that was all of the merriment and laughter going on around her. But that's another story...
